Mr. Frank Ciaccio, the Emergency Management Coordinator from IAH gave a wonderful talk on emergency preparedness from the airport perspective. IAH is the 11th busiest airports in the US. He stated that there are 3 areas of concern---preparedness, response, and recovery in the airport’s plan. In preparing, his department develops partnerships, plan drills, and analyzes the need for specialized equipment and training for all airline disasters. In responding he stated they would establish secure perimeters, preserve life, and prevent disturbances of the accident scene and the wreckage. With recovery, his group would gather damage assessments, assist with resident and community needs, determine unmet needs, and brief officials and community leaders. He stated that airports do a technical investigation after a crash. Mr. Ciaccio stated that everyone should know the Harris County Aviation Plan especially with the airport so close to our agencies.
